Fear of public speaking

Fear of Public Speaking?

Fear of public speaking affects more people than almost any other fear.
For many women, the fear of public speaking shows up quietly and persistently.

They often say the only fear worse than public speaking is death.
While that may sound dramatic, it reflects how deeply rooted this fear can be.

For many women, the fear is not limited to standing on a stage.
It also appears in smaller, more personal moments.

This may include speaking up in meetings.
It may involve setting boundaries.
Sometimes, it is simply having one difficult conversation with one person.

When Fear of Public Speaking Is Really Fear of Being Heard

In my experience, fear of public speaking often hides another fear.
It is the fear of being judged, misunderstood, or rejected.

Many women are not afraid of words themselves.
They are afraid of the response those words might bring.

I once heard a talk called “The Conversations You Must Have.”
It focused on the discussions we avoid, even when they matter most.

These are the conversations that linger in the background.
They create tension, stress, and emotional exhaustion.

Are You Avoiding Important Conversations?

Ask yourself this gently.
Are there conversations in your life that you keep postponing?

You may know what you want to say.
You may even rehearse it in your head.

Yet fear of public speaking, even in private settings, holds you back.
Silence can feel safer than uncertainty.

Over time, however, that silence can limit confidence and self-worth.

From Public Speaking to “Speaking Out”

Rather than focusing only on public speaking, we call this “Speaking Out.”
Speaking out is about expressing your truth with clarity and confidence.

It does not require a microphone or an audience.
It begins with trusting your own voice.

At The Butterfly Club Magazine, our aim is to support this journey.
We offer tools, encouragement, and practical guidance to help you speak out.

Learning to Overcome Fear of Public Speaking

Over the coming weeks, we will explore this topic in depth.
