When I Dressed Like a Slob as a Stylist

When I Dressed Like a Slob as a Stylist

When I dressed like a slob as a stylist, it felt like a paradox. For almost two years, I wore slovenly, drab, and ultra-casual clothes—an unusual sight for someone passionate about style. Many might assume this phase was a direct result of the global lockdown in 2022-2023, but the real surprise is that my decision to dress this way had nothing to do with working remotely. After all, I’ve been working from home since 2012. So, what pushed me into a style rut where I no longer cared about my appearance?

Losing My Sense of Style

I can’t wait to share the answer to this question and many other style revelations with you. Let’s dive into this journey together and explore moments in my life where I completely lost all self-respect when it came to fashion. Some of these style stories are comical, others are traumatic, but each one holds valuable insights. Who knows? They might even inspire you on your journey toward embracing fashion and personal style.

The Pandemic and Dressing Like a Slob

To some degree, we’ve all lost ourselves and our style over the past few years. At the start of the pandemic, when we were forced to work from home, we all started asking, “What’s the point of getting dressed? Who cares how I show up?” The lounge-wear lifestyle became our daily uniform, and soon, the idea of dressing up felt almost unnecessary. I resisted this trend at first, but eventually, I too fell into the comfort trap of cozy pajamas and soft sweatpants.

The Impact of Casual Fashion on Society

Thanks to this global fashion shift, sales of tees, leggings, and loungewear skyrocketed into the billions of dollars, while sales of dresses, heels, and skirts plummeted. Wrapped in our synthetic blanket of comfort, we abandoned the need to dress with intention. But thankfully, we now find ourselves on the other side of this fashion era. Main Street is open for business again, and the tides of style are shifting dramatically. In fact, the biggest trend for 2025 is set to be (drum roll, please)…

Old Money Aesthetic: The End of Dressing Like a Slob

Think classic statement blazers, knee-length pencil or dirndl skirts, and cable-knit pullovers and cardigans in high-quality, natural fabrics. This effortless, polished look embraces sophistication, elegance, and self-confidence—without relying on loud, flashy labels or micro-trends. It’s about dressing like a woman who respects herself and those around her. A look that commands presence and, in many ways, opens doors.

My Style Transformation

I’ve embraced this aesthetic as part of my personal transformation, moving beyond past struggles to redefine my style and outlook. In this series of articles, I invite you into a deeper conversation about style—one without an agenda to sell you new clothes simply because they’re trending. This is just my fashion perspective, and I hope you’ll join me for the ride.
