Club News & Magazine Update

Over 200 people a month come to visit the Butterfly Club website. I hope most of these are women interested in their midlife transition and the issues it brings up.

We are just updating the first page of our website to direct visitors to read some articles in the Magazine to see if the Butterfly Club could help them on their midlife journey of transformation.

Also we are adding a video which I made recently for midlife women called ‘Are you a woman between 40 and 60?’

It is less than 5 minutes long and you can watch it here.

In it I try to reassure women that the midlife difficulties they are experiencing are part of a natural process which may be unpleasant now but will lead to a beautiful outcome. I compare this to the journey from being a caterpillar to a glorious butterfly.

Midlife Couples on a Cruise

Jean has just returned from a cruise and had a good time and met some nice people, but some midlife couples did not seem so happy! Here you can read her thoughts and in the Magazine her ideas on what can be done.

‘Unfortunately, even on holiday, I can’t stop myself from observing my special subject, which is Women in Middle Life. At least half of the 1300 passengers were couples in middle life without children with them.

Of those a major part consisted of disappointed and unhappy-looking women and bored or boring-looking men.

The women were generally well-presented and well-groomed while the men were mostly overweight and underdressed. There were exceptions but very few.’

Life Begins at 40. Do you agree?

You may be familiar with this phrase as the title of an evergreen song by Sophie Tucker which contains some encouraging and sexually explicit sentiments.

It sums up my view that after 40, maybe today we can say any time after 40, you are free to choose the life you want, both in terms of intimacy and also many other aspects of life.

After all with modern health and self-care, we can expect to live at least as long again. Why waste it?

Quick Tips for Healthier Living No 1

Middle life is hard work for most women.
We need to be in good shape to deal with all the demands it brings.

The first area is to preserve, protect and enhance Our Health.
You may remember I disagree with the widely held belief that being Healthy means not being Ill!
That is why I favour the term Wellness.
There are many small, practical and natural steps you can take to improve your Wellness every day.

To help you do that I did a video interview with our Healthier Living Expert, Janette Derham, about maintaining and improving our health.

Handling an Unwanted Pass – MEMBERS ONLY

When a man (usually) touches you or says something rude or offensive, you can choose to remain silent and move away.

However, that leaves you in the position of being a Passive Victim. Telling other people about it afterwards does not make you any less of a victim.

And what if it is difficult to move away or you don’t want to move?

Women don’t generally realise the power of their tongue. Asking a clever question is more powerful than an insult.

Alison Pilling writes about what should be your attitude to an Unwanted Pass or Grope and I would like to ask our Members for some words or phrases to do so.

3. Why do Midlife Women have a Love Deficit? MEMBERS ONLY

This is an interview with Jean and the well-known Chat Show Host Des O’Connor about
The Changing Face of Love. He grills her on the following issues –
Why do Midlife Women need more Love, which I call a Love Deficit?
How old must one be to be a Midlife Woman?
Why call us Midlife Women rather than Middle-Aged Women?
What are the particular problems Midlife Women face?
What do I do to support Midlife Women?
What does the future hold for Midlife Women
The audio track is called Why Do Midlife Women Have a Love Deficit? – and runs for 20 minutes.
You can listen to it on your phone or download it to your phone so you can listen to it when and where you wish.

4. What questions are you asking yourself?
The most important questions for women arriving at middle life are:

‘Who Am I now?’ and ‘What is my future?
They want to know ‘What is happening in my life’ or when they get here it might be:

‘Am I a midlife woman?’ or ‘What does it mean to be a Midlife Woman?’

If you have had teenage children, you will recognise a similar process as they struggle to come to terms with their life and body changes, but not yet understanding what is happening.

I have put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and my attempted answers.
I have 12 so far and maybe you can come up with some more. If so please let me know.

When you join us as a Silver member we send you a series of short emails which deal with the most common questions, one or two at a time, so you have time to digest the answers.
