Club News & Magazine – Why do so many women feel guilty about Christmas?

You may not recognise feeling guilty at Christmas but I believe the underlying cause of so much pre-Christmas stress is guilt.

I remember being at a pre-Christmas event a few years ago and being with a group of women worrying about what they needed to do for their children at Christmas.

After the group had dispersed I asked the one remaining woman why so many women felt so much stress about doing all these things for their children and she wisely replied ‘Because they feel guilt that they haven’t done enough for their children.’

I thought afterwards how ironic this is!  If you ask their children, they wouldn’t have a clue what was going on or how much their mother was doing on their behalf.

Our mission for December in the Midlife Butterfly Club is to help women calm down and manage the pre-Christmas preparations without so much stress so that they can enjoy them.

We will be running a series of posts in the Magazine and on our Facebook Page called Twelve Days of Stressmas. In these, some of our Experts will be giving tips and techniques for reducing your pre-Christmas stress.  Our Twelve Days are spread over the month leading up to Christmas.

If you know someone who is already getting stressed about Christmas arrangements, please pass them this link

Glynis Johns – Sister Suffragette

Glynis Johns, sang a song called Sister Suffragette in Mary Poppins in 1964 before the second wave of Feminism started.   Some progress has been made with the hopes expressed in this song but there is still a long way to go.

Why you may not be getting the Love you deserve No. 2
In my second video on love in midlife, I discuss how women often “set their sights too low,” compromising on their ideal partner out of past disappointment. Now is the time to stand tall, believe in yourself, and aim for the love you truly desire.
