Glitz and Glamour in a Style to suit You!
Tis the time of year again to wear all things velvety and sparkly and don all things that inspire us to feel more festive and hopeful.
The beauty of the Christmas season and holiday attire is that it allows us to step outside our comfort zone (and our typical daily uniform) to wear things that bring out our inner sparkle.
Nothing says Christmas quite like sequins. Let’s face it, who doesn’t love a bit of sparkle and shine? It’s a shame that societal conventions dictate that it’s only appropriate to wear sequins in December. At the same time, too many stylists are still urging midlife women to stay away from the idea of wearing sequins in favour of wearing clothes that are more soft, subtle and, dare I say, “age appropriate.”
All of this is utter nonsense, I say, especially since wearing sequins can bring out our feminine, sparkly side. And who says that you have to appear more soft and subtle as you get older? I’m all for celebrating my age with style that’s outside the box while inspiring other women to have the freedom to do the same.
If you want to effortlessly pull off the look of wearing sequins for any holiday occasion, here are some tips that will help you get started. You will be able to effortlessly wear sequins from casual to corporate to cocktail. You will be amazed how stylish you will look (and how fabulous you feel!)
All you have to do is think of your sequins as a basic neutral. You can literally wear them anywhere as long as you balance out the glitz and glamour of your sequins by pairing them with contrasting textures.
For instance, I’ve paired my sequinned skirt with a variety of casual pieces such as cosy wool or cashmere knits, a crisp white shirt, or even a bohemian lacy blouse for a more ‘relaxed’ look. I’ve also elevated the look to cocktail attire by wearing a taffeta teal sleeveless blouse.
When you change up the footwear, this changes the look from daytime to evening. You can also add a touch more bling with sparkly earrings, as long as you don’t put them next to each other when wearing them.
I always love getting more mileage from my clothes. “Multipurpose” is one of my favourite buzz words. My mind is constantly looking for different ways that I can wear my favourite garments.
So what if Christmas only comes once a year? Why should all the best clothes hang at the back of your closet? Make it count by dressing up your best and brightest self any time of the year.
With these simple tips, you will be able to create a stunning, coordinated look for all your upcoming holiday parties and beyond!
