MIDSUMMER MIDLIFE FLORALS

Hello

MIDSUMMER MIDLIFE FLORALS

Gardens are bursting into bloom with colour right now. So, it makes sense that we should look to nature for some midsummer outfit inspiration.

Just as the flowers range from dainty and delicate to big and bold, floral patterns also range from dark and moody to feminine and flirty. There’s something for everyone.

Florals are about having fun with fashion and enjoying the joy and romance of midsummer. It’s a perfect time to embrace your inner romantic with floral print dresses, skirts, trousers, tops, footwear and everything in between.

However, there are a few factors to think about before choosing floral prints to avoid a look that’s too busy, too frumpy or just ‘wrong’! Here’s a few tips to help you rock a perfect midsummer, midlife, floral vibe.

The key to wearing florals is to wear the print with a plain solid colour, preferably in a co-ordinating or complementary tone. Florals typically come in multiple colours so any colour in the print is a good option. Alternatively, choose a neutral such as black, white, grey, ivory or beige as another option if you prefer not to wear a lot of colours. A great style choice is to wear floral prints as an accent — choose one piece only.

If you think that florals look too ‘matronly’ or too ‘girly’, then consider adding a modern edge. A leather biker jacket or denim jacket over your dress or skirt or a sharply tailored jacket with a pair of floral trousers all add a modern twist. Add trainers or heels, according to preference.

If you’re wearing dramatic prints, keep your accessories neutral and let the print do the talking. Choose just one fabulous pair of earrings, OR a chunky cuff or bracelet, OR a statement necklace but not all three! Remember to keep your accessories to scale in line with your body architecture. Top tip – small, dainty jewellery will be swallowed up by busy florals.

If you want to be adventurous and mix print with print, one print should be smaller than the other, in the same or similar colour family. If you really want to mix it up, have some fun and mix print with like-toned or monochrome prints such as spots or stripes.

Florals are available in a variety of sizes, but avoid large, oversized prints if you are full figured as they will make you appear even bigger. A smallish floral print generally works well for everyone and a smaller floral print when you want something to appear smaller.

The best tip? Simply, have fun with florals!
