Colour of Easter
Yellow is the Colour of Easter
Think of Easter and you’ll probably think of chicks, lambs, spring flowers and chocolate eggs. I often think if Easter were a colour, it would be yellow.
There’s nothing that says Easter in the style space than lemon coloured summer dresses and floppy straw hats! But people fear wearing yellow as it CAN make us look ill, jaundiced even, if we don’t hit the right tone.
Yellow, like all colours, has so many tints, tones and shades. It’s simply a case of establishing which tint/tone or shade of the colour suits YOU.
The first step is to determine whether you need a warm or cool based yellow. If your skin undertone is peach, then a warm yellow is best, but if your undertone is pink based, then a cool yellow works best for you.
When you have a colour analysis, you’ll be advised about this and assigned a seasonal – or tonal – palette of colours.
Autumn and Spring are the warm palettes for the peachy skin tones and Summer and Winter are the cool palettes for the pinky based clients. Do you know if you are cool or warm?
As a warm, Spring palette myself, yellow is very much part of my palette and a warm, bright yellow works best for me. But not too bright that it overwhelms me. Have you ever seen anybody wear a colour, where all you see is the colour not the person? We want to see you first, not the colour. You should wear it not vice versa!
If you’re not sure if a colour is too bright, do the squint test. Put the item on and look in a mirror. Squeeze your eyes tight shut and notice what you see.
The colour? Then it’s too bright!
Yourself? Then it’s just right!
A colour analysis will work all this out for you. Which colours flatter you most – bright, muted, soft, clear, deep, light, warm, cool…And it makes such a difference. It really does. After all we are naturally and physiologically predisposed to suit some colours more than others. It’s a completely natural process, backed by science.
Yellow is a popular choice for celebs, particularly for awards ceremonies. Maybe it’s the positivity and exuberance of yellow or the burst of self confidence and self esteem that yellow exudes. It certainly is a colour to lift spirits. However, wearing too much yellow can make the wearer feel anxious or irritable!
Happy Easter everyone!
Have a wonderful time, whatever you’re doing!
